It takes a leap of faith…

Paradox Grandis are an enigma.  Just when you think you understand the genetics, something pops up to shake things up.  We have been seeing some incredible transformations of Paradox bloodlines.  Some are visible at hatch.  Some take months or even years to show up.  We currently have 30 bloodlines breeding of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and starting this year 4th generation mated pairs.  We have them separated into two main categories at this time.  Those that show blue or blue/violet color on the head at hatch, and those who don’t.  Those who don’t can show a faint blue hue to the scales or (ironically for an axanthic bloodline) a yellowish green  in contrast to a normal green and red grandis hatchling.

Surprisingly, the geckos that change incredible colors that rock our world are very often those that hatch looking pretty plain.  When you see that first dot of blue or purple color starting on the body excitement starts building.  The color spreads and changes in ways individual to each gecko.  Some stay patchy.  Some change completely.  And then some change colors again.

We have priced our non-visual at hatch paradox lower to encourage those of you out there with a sense of adventure to take the plunge and enjoy watching the transformation over time into something striking and unique.  All it takes is a leap of faith.  What colors will you find? Are you ready to take a leap of faith?

Let your light shine

A word about lighting…

We have been breeding geckos 25 years now.  In that time, we have tried many different brands and types of lighting.  We have mainly used fluorescent bulbs until recent LED technology has inspired us to switch over.  What is more important, full spectrum, specific UV spectrum for Vitamin D3 use, heat temperature, CRI (color-rendering index)?

We have always tried for a balanced spectrum with as close to natural sunlight full spectrum as possible.  At this point in time, we believe with Repcal with D3 supplementation the geckos seem to prefer a higher CRI.

On another note, some pictures on the website are old, and taken with old style lighting and older camera technology.  The quality is notably poorer but is included to illustrate a point.

The pictures with a plain background are taken in a light box with LED strips with CRI of 91.  The camera settings are such that the photo reflects most accurately what the eye sees.  We strive to send and post pictures that accurately reflect our animals.  Artificially enhancing our digital photos does nothing to build trust with our customers.  When you get your gecko home it should look like the photo we sent but do realize that different lighting and computer/tablet/phone screens can show slight differences.

How to choose a gecko

In general we will send you 3 pictures to choose from. To help us narrow your choices to meet your criteria, please think about the following:

Are you looking for a juvenile, well-started 6 to 11 month old, sexable yearling, or breedable size (generally 2 years depending on species). Are you looking for a specific color pattern (more or less red on a Blue Blood)? Are you looking for a breeding pair or showy display animal? Do you want the largest animal available or the best color no matter what the age? What is your budget? How soon are you looking to buy? Is shipping to you possible weather permitting or would you like to pick up at a show? The more information you give us the better we can pick out the perfect gecko(s) for you.
